Paranormal Activity is an American supernatural horror film series presented in the style of "found footage." Oren Peli wrote and directed the first installment, and has been a producer on all of its sequels to date. The original,Paranormal Activity, was first developed as an independent film, and was screened at film festivals in 2007. Paramount Pictures quickly took notice and acquired it, making some modifications to - among other things - the film's ending. Releasing on September 25, 2009 (limited), and October 16, 2009 (nationwide), the film enjoyed a box office success of just under $108 million in the American market, and approximately $194 million worldwide.
